It’s important for every Chief Compliance Officer to have an understanding of the state and federal data security and privacy laws that affect their organization. Although responsibility may be shared with an Information Security Officer, it is critical to ensure that your organization maintains an effective information security management system (including risk assessment, control testing, and reporting to the Board) that considers these laws, in addition to client contractual requirements. In this session, we will discuss the following:

• An overview of federal laws, including GLBA and HIPAA
• An overview of the most aggressive state laws, including those in New York, California, Massachusetts, and Nevada
• Most common client requirements defined (ISO, SOC, PCI)
• Resources for compliance

Compliance culture cannot be built by the Compliance Officer alone; it starts at the top and takes a company-wide effort! Once you build it, you must have a solid foundation to maintain it. We will talk about best practices to maintain your company’s compliance culture and discuss ways to continue to create positive change with leadership teams, employees, and business partners.

We will discuss performing a risk assessment to identify what compliance reviews should be performed. The session will cover details about what regulations and processes to ensure are included in the risk assessment. Once the plan is complete, who approves it, how is it executed, and who should get the results? We will discuss all of this and more.

Debt collectors and debt buyers are the single best source of account data about the post-default lifecycle of an account. Buyers and collectors accumulate and store vast amounts of data about the collection history of an account, but it’s not always fully utilized and analyzed. Studying this data can yield beneficial results which can drive compliance decisions and production strategy. Attend this session to learn about how buyers and collectors can think about their data differently, analyze their data to look for relationships not previously considered, and utilize the business intelligence contained in their data to drive business and compliance decisions.
